Although I've come down with a cold, I decided to go out shooting a little around my neighborhood—UWS. I like this particular image because you really get a sense of how big the sphere is compared to the people down below. The sphere is actually a small planetarium at the Museum of Natural History, and the people you see walking around the sphere are looking at signs posted in a spiral fashion describing the relevant sizes of particles in the universe. If I’m not mistaken there is a sphere the size of a man’s fist and the caption says that the big sphere is the same relation in size to the little fist size sphere as the sun is to the earth. Another caption claims that the big sphere has a relationship to a little one inch sphere with the same proportion as a proton has to an electron. In any case, I didn’t even realize the significance of the photo until I thought about the exhibit inside.
As a side-note, the colors of the past couple of photos I’ve posted have been lacking in saturation; this is probably due to the rainy weather we’ve had here in New York as of late.
